One afternoon, the field was empty. By nightfall, there were lights beyond the trees.
A Ferris wheel turned against the October sky. Calliope music drifted through the neighborhood. Hand-painted signs promised games, wonders, and prizes that seemed almost too perfect.
No trucks had arrived. No tents had been raised. No one could quite remember seeing the carnival come to town.
But everyone wanted to go. Especially Elliot Graves.
